how can you have everything and nothing to lose?

March 13th, 2008 -

1. I’m grocery shopping more often these days, which leads to me having more groceries, usually of the healthy persuasion. I’m eating lots of whole wheat, fruits, vegetables, and organic things, and I feel pretty good about it. The less I eat fast food and cookies, the less I crave them. However, this (along with an incredible increase in my workload — more on that in a bit) has led to a decrease in muffin production, hopefully temporarily, but unfortunate nonetheless. I like making sweets, but I discovered that making a couple dozen muffins a week, along with cookies or bread or whatever strikes my fancy is not only an expensive habit, but also one that leads to lots of food waste, as my family grows weary of having so many bake sale goods forced upon them. Can’t say I blame them. Anyway, I haven’t given up on opening a music and muffins shoppe. It’s going to be so great.

2. I spent too much money the past couple of weeks. Last week was spring break, which is a nice concept were it to be executed in the spring instead of late winter. Nonetheless, I had a nice break. Wendy, Jessi, Mandy and I went to Asheville last weekend, and had a wonderful and relaxing little trip. I’m terribly fond of downtown Asheville, and its little artsy shops and galleries, not to mention the mountains. We took groceries and things to make meals in our Super 8 motel, which made for a fairly inexpensive trip, but then you must take into account all the shopping that was done.
Friday, Hannah and I went to Athens to see Ani DiFranco and Over the Rhine at the 40 Watt. Athens is another city from another neighboring state, which also starts with “A” and has a surprisingly artistic / musical personality. These are the only similarities. Athens is a strange place, which I also love, but also hate. Strange indeed. But we had a great time, and enjoyed the show, and I bought some new cds at Wuxtry Records — two Tom Waits, and “Summerteeth” by Wilco. If that wasn’t enough, my trip to greenville Monday found me buying yet another batch of groceries (at Whole Foods, no less), and five more cds. Three were used (The Ditty Bops, The Old 97’s, and the “Lovefool” single by the Cardigans), but two were new (the new Thrills cd — “Teenager”, and my favorite Rilo Kiley — “More Adventurous”), and now it’s time to call it quits in the money-spending department for a while. It was tax refund money, and I need to spend it on a new air compressor for my car, but a bit of a splurge feels nice every so often.

3. School is absolutely ridiculous, especially with work on top. I’m going to be writing code until I die. I only say this because I’m pretty sure the writing of the code is going to kill me. That isn’t true, actually. Nonetheless, don’t count on seeing me in a while, unless it’s in a decaffeinated (or overly caffeinated) state. Forgive me, please.

Ok, so it’s another procrastination post. Time to get back to work.

I’ll owe you better later, k?
