coffee times

April 16th, 2008 -

Well, 499 is due in two days. That would make tonight a crunch night, and this the end of the semester. I’ll be honest — it’s certainly a bittersweet occasion. I’ve had a hard time not reminding myself of “lasts.” Yesterday, I mounted something on presentation board with rubber cement for the last time. Today, I filled out my last gallery form for a FALS credit. Friday, I’ll impose myself on someone else’s art class for the last time. I love school, more than anything else I’ve done, and I know I’ll miss the variety and the people and probably even Lander itself. So yeah, it’s been a little sad.

That being said, I am completely freaking out over this project deadline, and enjoying that regular end-of-semester programming crunch. This part, anyway, is at least 96% bitter and perhaps 4% sweet. This part I probably won’t miss, as I imagine that work will provide me with plenty of similar crunch-time deadlines. At least not everything will be lost.

However, for any of you out there who are still in school, listen carefully. Tonight, I have discovered something that I desperately wish I had known all four years of my college career — something that nearly redeems these horrible crunch times. It’s something I have known and loved for a very long time, but just in a different context. That something is Huddle House South. Yes, it’s fantastic for group gatherings. It’s an ideal landmark for photos, birthday parties, and general cheap dining. But did you know that Huddle House South provides free wifi? This, combined with the whole 24/7 thing and free coffee refills, makes this a perfect* place to get a whole lot of work done whenever you want.

The rest of the Amy update: Classes end a week from today, plus time for exams and whatnot. I will spend most of the second half of May in Mexico. June 2, I begin working full time. There are other potentially exciting tidbits in store for me in 2008, but I must keep quiet until the kinks are worked out. But really, this post is just for Huddle House. Back to the grind for me…

* ok, almost perfect. There’s only one power outlet, so if you must plug in, sit next to the jukebox.
